83% want more employer interaction

WOW, our latest survey saw a huge response in the level of employer involvement around building and developing employee relations! A total of just over 83% felt that their employer did nothing and/or could be more proactive in driving better relationships.

Only 17% felt that their employer was already involved enough, which as far as we are concerned, is not a very promising percentage!

So, how could employers become more involved in helping their employees to have better relationships? Here are a few ideas that you may wish to suggest to your employer if you get a chance :)

- Team building - for example, group lunches, after work drinks, bowling, go-karting or anything that creates an opportunity for employees to socialise outside their normal working day and that suits the types of personalities involved.

- Have more meetings - they help with verbal communication between staff rather than just sending emails all day long.

- Seating - shuffle seating around so people sit with new members of the company and get to interact with those they have not already communicated with.

- Encourage added responsibility and shared tasks so staff are working together in depth and dealing with each other on a day to day basis.

- Suggest an open door for employees to air their concerns so problems and worries are dealt with rather than allowing them to fester.

- Morning, afternoon, end of the week meetings (whenever or whichever!) to allow a transparent working environment and provide a common ground for everyone to get involved in. Individuals can talk about what they are working on, review how they are getting on and plan the next steps. It is a great way to encourage informal chatting but focuses on business as well.

- If there is nothing already set up for birthday boy/girl celebrations, suggest that on their birthdays, either you celebrate by having cake or going for a drink after work or something along those lines to bring everyone together in a relaxed environment. The same at Christmas or New Year when there is a reason to bring everyone together and maybe even suggest a Summer Party!

We hope some of these ideas are useful. If you have any other ideas you would share that you know work well in your organisation, then please do post them below to let others know. It is always good to hear what works for others and try out new ideas.
