Modern offices create motivated staff

In our latest study looking at styles of offices and motivation, we can reveal some interesting correlations between modernised work space and motivated staff.

82% of respondents say their offices are modernised and updated which is reassuring however that still leaves 18% of workers who are still operating in the 80's. Of these unfortunate soles, 84% said they would feel more motivated with a new, refurbed, modernised office.

So, the answer to this is to remind/suggest those at the top how important your office is to you and your feelings whilst at work. The more you nag, the more chance you will have of it happening. Yes it costs money, but what better investment than one that in turn creates a motivated and productive workforce. If you get a chance to discuss what motivates you, make sure you are clear to mention how important your surroundings are to you. Just take a look at the pictures below where you can see a before and after and the potential your office has of improving for the better. We know what we would choose!!!

How to overcome the 'blues' on Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year

The third Monday of January is known as "Blue Monday" and is approaching on the 18th January 2016. It is not just a whim but a calculated theory that was introduced back in 2005.

Maybe it is to do with the reality of being back at work after a lovely rested Christmas break and no doubt something to do with the fact that we are heading towards the end of a long month and people are desperate for their pay after spending a lot of money on gifts. Limited funds can cause anyone worry, upset and stress. On top of this, cold, grey and rainy weather can cause quite a large proportion of people to suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) or a lesser form and make people feel depressed just getting up in the morning.

So, given that "Blue Monday" is a real issue and that it is apparently going to effect a large percentage of organisation's productivity, we thought we would give you a few tips on how to overcome the feeling of being "Blue".

- Listen to music to make you feel happy;
- Organise a holiday or a break from the office so you have something to look forward to;
- See friends;
- Organise your work diary so you mentally are on top of your daily tasks and leave Friday with a plan of action for Monday;
- Eat well and drink less alcohol so you do not have the ups and downs;
- Exercise, whether it is walking or cycling to work, playing a team sport or hitting the gym;
- Take photos of your friends and family into work to make you smile;
- Have early nights and relax before going to sleep;
- Make plans in the evening so you are not just sitting in front of the TV every night;
- Suggest a motivating team/department evening or day out;
- If there is something specific making you feel down, speak to your boss and address it;
- Think about all the things you are excited about and that make you happy and put these into a list that you can refer to.

We hope some of these ideas will help you to get through "Blue Monday". If you have any other good ideas to help other people from suffering, do share with us here......

40% of UK citizens could last 6 months with savings when 70% of Indian citizens couldn’t last more than 1 month

In a recent survey conducted by TipTopJob.com, it was found that 40% of UK citizens could last 6 months or more on their savings if they were to lose their job. On the other hand, in the UK, the same number (40%) couldn’t last more than a month.

The findings went on to survey jobseekers and employees across the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, India and South Africa.

A huge 70% of citizens in India have less than one month’s savings. In Australia 54% could only last one month, in the USA 52%, in Canada 38% and South Africa 44%.

In India, only 10% could last more than 6 months but this was closely followed by 13% of individuals in Canada. In South Africa, 22% of people could last more than 6 months.

Across the world, with people being careful with what they are spending it is not surprising that there is not a higher % that could last more than 6 months. However, with the economic problems, in some cases maybe individuals have felt they have had to save their money in case they were to lose their job.

Mike Dauncey, comments, “A thought-provoking survey and interesting results comparing Country to Country. We will repeat this survey each year to see how the results may differ as time goes on. I am sure we will see an increase in the % of those able to last 6 months or more as time goes on.”
