Interesting research has found that social media and chocolate are almost par and par when it comes to the thing that people give up for lent. Chocolate and sweets are still the most common thing to give up (18%) followed by social media (14%). 

When it comes to lent, people give up the thing they feel they are most addicted to, a habit they want to kick or the thing that they feel is not good for them. It could be anything, not just something you eat or drink but also something you do. It is interesting now in 2018, that people are choosing to give up social media - something that has sadly taken over most peoples work and social lives. We do hope that individuals start to realise the negative effect social media has on them and start to retain some self-control over their daily usage.

There were plenty of other options on our list when it came to what people give up at lent. Here are some of the other results....
Caffeine - 6%
Alcohol - 5%
Smoking - 5%
Meat - 3% 
Crisps - 2% 

On the other hand, 47% of our respondents to this research said that they are not giving up anything !

Everybody writes and presents their CV as they like, there is no right or wrong way. However, with these words of advice we will help you produce a clear and concise CV that will increase your chances of being invited for an interview. 

The first part of the article addresses the Content of the CV. To begin, prepare a list of your key competencies and skills that your employer will be looking for. We came across an article in the news today about the top skills that employers are looking for. Within the piece it states that the number one skill is verbal communication. Whether this is needed or not in the actual role, it is felt that this skill is the most important over any of other. Do you agree?

Second in the research is teamwork. Although teamwork is paramount when working alongside others, there are jobs that probably require other more important skills over teamwork, so it really does depend on the industry and job role.

Some of the other skills within the top 10 include; commercial awareness, analysis and investigation, initiative and self-motivation, drive, written communication, planning, organisation and time management. Although this list is not exhaustive, it does cover some of the most important skills needed for many roles. As already mentioned some skills may be more important for specific roles that are not highlighted here so although the above are thought to be the most important based on a number of surveys, it is not set in stone. 

For example, an IT Software Developers' most important skills may be programming, logical thinking, structured thinking and attention to detail whereas a Sales Managers' most important skills may be verbal communication, teamwork, leadership and negotiation skills etc.

We have been asking some of our users about their own New Years Resolutions and although many relate to changing careers, many also relate to eating habits at work, career progression and working on personal goals within the working environment.

A recent new story released this week has called for offices to reduce the amount of cake intake for the fear of rotting teeth. What do you feel about stopping birthday cakes, a tradition that has been around for years? Are you hopeful that employees tastes and their mindset can move towards a more healthy treat for our teeth and bodies? We are not so sure.
