Our results reveal the following.....

- 63% of people say "YES" they are looking for a job and do not already have one. 
- 30% say "YES" as well that they have a job and they are also looking.
- 2% do not want a job!!
- 4% have a job and are not currently looking.

Positive news that the majority of people either are looking for a job or have a job with only 2% happy not to work. 

January is a great time to go on the hunt with many more companies recruiting, advertising and looking for grow. Many want to start fresh and use January as a good time to make new, positive changes to their lives.

96% respect the sexes

We are very pleased to collate our latest survey results looking into sexism in the workplace. 

96% of respondents say they would respect a man and woman equally as their boss. 

Over the years equality is becoming a more discussed topic especially within the workplace. The gap between men and women is reducing but is still prominent in many industries and locations. Will the strive for true equality ever really exist with the clear differences between men and women that will always prevail?

4% of people sadly said they would not respect a man and woman equally - if that was you - who would you respect less and what are your reasons? Please do share....

"Suits & Ties" most popular dress for Interviews

In our latest research, TipTopJob found that the majority of jobseekers that gain an interview, will turn up "extra smart". This involves wearing, for example, suits and ties, to make the best first impression possible.

2% of jobseekers however would turn up to their interview wearing "dress down" or "casual" attire. This includes for example, t-shirts, flip-flops, ripped jeans and caps. It depends on the job you are going for and the industry as to whether you would chose to attend such an important event in your career like this but it always better to air on the side of caution and to look the part over making your interviewer think that you cannot be bothered.

18% would wear "smart casual" and 34% "smart".

 

Most splash the cash for an interview

Our latest findings reveal that most jobseekers go shopping and buy a whole brand new outfit before they go for an interview. 

40% of respondents say that they would go to the shops in order to purchase everything new. 24% go out to buy a few new things. Interestingly, 36% reuse their wardrobe.

Some people re-using their wardrobe may have already bought a new outfit for recent previous interviews therefore not needing to buy everything brand new. Some may already be smart in their day to day life so have suitable and appropriate clothing anyway.

First impressions count and by turning up looking the part, you will be off to a better start than if you turn up in scruffy jeans and a cap. If that requires a visit to the shops, then so be it - you will not regret it!

 

My boss is the reason I want to leave my job!

We are investigating the reason why you may want to leave your job and if it is because of the boss! Here are our latest findings...

40% of people want to leave their job because of their boss. 16% of these do not agree with how he/she works, 15% do not like him/her and 9% say their boss bullies/harasses staff. 

60% of the respondents like their boss and are not considering leaving their job.

86% have NEVER lied on their CV

Have you ever lied on your CV? 

We are pleased to say that in our latest study, an amazing 86% of people have NEVER lied on their CV. Obviously, we wanted to see 100% as the result but it is apparent that some individuals feel the need to change their profiles/history etc in order to find themselves a new job.

6% said that they had told a big lie on their CV and 8% just a small white lie. Unfortunately, even though it is a small percentage, there are still some that feel they need to make such changes in their CV.

So, what, we would like to know are people lying about? It is their age? How long they were employed for? If they took a break? Job titles? Education history? References? 

Advice at TipTopJob is not to lie. Is the risk worth it? If you get found out it will definitely cost you the job! If there is something you feel you need to explain, then explain it to the employer/recruiter so you are open and honest as this will be received much better than a potential lie.

44% only ever done their CV the once

Latest research discovers that 44% of jobseekers have only ever put their CV together, just the once. Does this tell us that many jobseekers only compile their CV, apply for the one job and then are lucky enough to be offered it? Wouldn't that make job hunting easy!

Further to this, 34% have created somewhere between 2 and 5 CV's when applying for a job. This relates to the CV being varied according to the similar but different roles being applied for at the same time. 

13% have created more than 10 CV's - WOW! And 9% have put together between 5 and 10 CV's.

So, how many have you done? Have you found that you are re-creating many CV's so you only ever send one CV to one company? This is how we advise jobseekers to go about their job applications to ensure they are really targeting their applications according to the job and role. Work hard to impress your boss

Latest research tells us that over three quarters of employees work hard to impress their boss.

Everyone strives to please and there is no exception to relationships at work. One of the most important people in life to impress is your boss - they are the ones you have to perform well for, the one who promotes you, agrees to pay rises, does not sack you etc

We are pleased to reveal that sucking up to the boss does not come anywhere near for most.

Among the other options were.... befriending them, avoiding stress, arriving early, helping colleagues.

Social media catching up chocolate as the thing people give up for lent

Interesting research has found that social media and chocolate are almost par and par when it comes to the thing that people give up for lent. Chocolate and sweets are still the most common thing to give up (18%) followed by social media (14%). 

When it comes to lent, people give up the thing they feel they are most addicted to, a habit they want to kick or the thing that they feel is not good for them. It could be anything, not just something you eat or drink but also something you do. It is interesting now in 2018, that people are choosing to give up social media - something that has sadly taken over most peoples work and social lives. We do hope that individuals start to realise the negative effect social media has on them and start to retain some self-control over their daily usage.

There were plenty of other options on our list when it came to what people give up at lent. Here are some of the other results....
Caffeine - 6%
Alcohol - 5%
Smoking - 5%
Meat - 3% 
Crisps - 2% 

On the other hand, 47% of our respondents to this research said that they are not giving up anything !

Coffee or tea is first choice in the morning...

It is great to see that lemon water is making an appearance as one of the first things that people consume in the morning. We can imagine that 3 years ago, it was fairly non-existent!

Our latest research around what people have first thing in the morning, show some interesting (some great, some NOT SO great!) facts…..

Top of the pile, coffee or tea, is what the majority of people jump to drinking - a whopping 45% of people start their day off with some caffeine!

29% go for a good hearty breakfast. The option that is sure to kick start the day off well and get the brain ticking. We are happy to see that a decent proportion enjoy a good breaky every morning.

As already mentioned, lemon water was an option and 10% of people now begin their day by cleansing their systems. This is music to our ears 😊

Unfortunately, there are still some that choose NOT to have anything (6%) and others who grab that naughty takeaway (7%). Plus only 3% start their day with a smoothie – although this surprises us with the current trend in juicing and making smoothies - we thought this figure would be much higher. Maybe it is just too time intensive in the morning rush?

In conclusion, we believe that businesses should start to educate their employees about how to begin their day and highlight what options are best for their body and mind. It is in the interest of the company at the end of the day as it can ultimately dictate the employees performance. Who wants a tired, sluggish, grumpy employee in their office?
