Changes to CV/Resumes on TipTopJob

We are pleased to share some changes to TipTopJob. We have now increased the limit of the CV/Resume sizes you can upload into your account. They used to have a limit of 500Kb but it is now 750Kb giving you 250Kb more space! This may not mean much to you in terms of Kb but you can be rest assured that you will be less likely to receive any errors when uploading larger CV/Resumes. 

It is however still recommend to limit the number of pictures includes as this can greatly increase the size to an unmanageable amount. Including pictures of yourself can also add an element of bias or judgement to a recruiter and in some Countries it is probably best avoided as less common practice. You will also want to leave out any pictures of visas/permits etc and supply these directly to a recruiter upon request. There is no need to include them in your CV/Resume at this early stage and usually they increase the size too much.

Given the adjustments in limits, we have reduced the number of CV/Resumes allowed in the accounts from 5 to 3. We have found many duplicates and therefore unnecessary to have these multiple items. If you want to apply for more than 3 jobs and require a different CV/Resume for each, once you have made an application you can simply remove an existing CV/Resume and upload a new one.

Work Experience on your CV...

Most people try to include achievements in their work experience section. The only trouble is that this is easier said than done and a lot of people do not write achievements as proactively as they could. Indeed, most people write achievements, which are not only nowhere near as proactive as they could be, but also achievements which are not pertinent enough and which are badly phrased in long and cluttered paragraphs rather than sharp, precise and powerful sentences.

Employers can pretty much pick and choose these days and most employers prefer achievers to people who can just do a typical job. If you want the best results therefore you need to come across as an achiever on your CV. And one of the best places on your CV to give the impression that you are an achiever is in your work experience section. It sounds simple, but you would be very surprised to see just how many people do not do this anyway near as powerfully as they could.


You are probably reading this right now thinking that this does not apply to you. However, it almost certainly does apply to you too. I have worked with CVs day in, day out for years, and, believe me, practically everyone undersells themselves on their CV, especially in the work experience section.

It is today becoming more obvious that military personnel who are leaving the forces and returning back to the UK struggle to find a new career and settle back into civilian life. We are conscious of the difficulties that the ex-military face and as a job board we want to help make a difference and get involved in helping our heroes back to work.

With recent news of over 8000 troops being de-mobbed / sent home from Camp Bastian, Helmand Province, Afghanistan and knowing our own government have made little or NO provision for our Heroes who have daily laid down their lives so we may live ours in relative safety, it is NO longer enough to put £1 in the poppy sellers tin and think we have done our bit. No, WE HAVE NOT…..we have a duty of care to HELP OUR HEROES back to work that bit quicker. And that is what we are taking control of!

This is why we have recently launched a specialist jobsite called theExMILITARYjob.com so it is easy to find jobs across the UK that are specifically being advertised for ex-military personnel. We are working in partnership with Mission Motorsport (soon to be a defence partner), supported by Help for Heroes, the Recovery Career Service and the MOD, which aids in the recovery and rehabilitation of those affected by military operations by providing opportunities through Motorsport.

On top of launching and managing the theExMILITARYjob.com we are also getting involved in additional activities to help the process of finding a new job. Currently we are advising individuals on how to better their CV’s in terms of structure, format and content so they are better placed to find work.

FREE Job Advertising in the UK...

Today we are happy to announce that ALL job advertising in the UK is FREE across our generic and 38 specialist jobsites.

The adjustment in strategy allows all advertisers across the UK, in any industry sector to make a use of the site at no cost for unlimited job advertising with no time limits or strings attached so we can concentrate on our International advertising services.

Recruiters need only visit the recruiter side of uk.tiptopjob.com site and start their job posting from there: http://uk.tiptopjob.com/default/client.asp. Recruiters can post single jobs directly on the site or they can forward their login details to their job posting board e.g. broadbean, logicmelon, jobmate, idibu etc and start bulk uploading through there. We are also able to take jobs via XML, CSV or HTTP if that is required.

The CV database cost is now offered at £150 per month plus £20 per additional user. The button banners are only £100 per month and can be purchased on any generic or specialist domain in the network.

New Infograph for TipTopJob Numbers

We have this week put together a new Infograph about TipTopJob numbers. In it we have highlighted the number of jobs posted in February and our total number of jobs, the total number of candidates on the database, the number of jobseekers registering and the CV views per day, how long people spend on our site, the % of new visitors, the % of candidates that register who also leave a CV behind and finally the number of jobs that get email alerted out.

Pricing update for online purchasing

In a bid to be the most competitive Job Board globally, we have reviewed our pricing for online purchases.

Prices are based on which Country the job is to be registered in and each Country has been assigned to 1 of 3 pricing groups.

1. Our Premium Countries include the UK and Ireland. We have now reduced the cost of 1 job advert for a 30 day period to ONLY £24/$30/€40. If advertisers choose 20 jobs, the cost is £250/$312/€412 per month for 30 day postings. The third option is for UNLIMITED job postings and the cost of this is ONLY £500/$625/€825 per month for 30 day postings.

For the other groups we have assigned a 50% discount in Europe and 75% discount Worldwide.

2. The second group of Countries include Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Italy, Kuwait, Netherlands, Oman, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UAE, and the USA. The price for 1 job advert for a 30 day period is ONLY £12/€15/$20. For 20 jobs it is £121/€151/$200. For UNLIMITED jobs it is £242/€303/$400.

3. The CV Database can now be bought based on whether you want to access a selected number of Countries, Regions or Global access and it is based on 1 user. Additional users are £50 per user.

Global access will cost 1 user £350 per month.
