National Hug Your Boss Day will be upon us next month, Friday 22nd August
2014. Are you gearing up to give your boss a big hug?
With just over one month to go, we are still asking questions related to
relationships at work and will have some interesting statistics for you once the
results are collected. To help us with this data, make sure you answer our
survey question currently being asked on our websites.
We are currently asking “Does your boss....1. Motivate and spur you on? 2.
Cause your stress and headache? 3. Make you feel devalued and want to
quit?”
It is official, National Hug Your Boss Day is confirmed for Friday, 22nd August 2014.
National Hug Your Boss Day was created in August 2008 by TipTopJob.com. It was created in order to promote the awareness of relationships between managers and employees and between colleagues. In a nutshell, we believe that if you are someone who gets on with your boss, then you will be more motivated and productive at work.
We want to promote good working relationships in the workplace as at the end of the day, you spend most of your waking life at work. If you are someone who gets on with your boss and colleagues then you are going to be far happier at work than those who do not. We want to offer advice to those who do not have these healthy relationships as we believe it is vital to a company’s success.
Over the years, we have conducted much research and asked hundreds of questions about hugging your boss, relationships with bosses/colleagues and more to come up with some interesting findings.
This year we want to raise the awareness of employee relations within companies who have staff who do not work in the same office whether it is being located in different offices across the Country or World and only communicate via email, intranet, MSN, Skype and telephone. We want to find out if this situation changes how you feel about your boss and if it fundamentally changes your drive and motivation.
Our website allows you to play a game to find out who your boss is, take a test to find out how good your relationship is with your boss, check out “hugging” pictures of companies who already support the day and read serious articles about motivation at work for both the employer and employee.
We celebrate on National Hug Your Boss Day by asking everyone to take pictures or videos of “hugging” your boss and uploading them to the Facebook page or emailing them in to
marketing@tiptopjob.com. To take part that is all we ask….

More commonly people are finding that they are being hired only to start the job and find that their roles and responsibilities are different to what they expected. It usually ends up in the newly hired employee wanting to leave and start the job hunt all over again rather than face up to the issue. Being caught up in such a difficult situation is not easy even if it was an accident on the company’s part or a deliberate change.
So, if you are faced with such a crisis, what should you do? The worst thing is to walk out. Communication here is key, even if you are going to find it so hard to confront you manager or boss.

64% of people in London have come across a jobseeker or recruiter with a rude/hilarious/funny name. Have you?!?
We also asked those living in Birmingham, Leeds, Glasgow, Manchester and Bristol and compared the results.
Only 3% of those in Leeds had come across a rude/hilarious/funny name in the recruitment market which was the smallest % out of all of the areas asked.
11% in Birmingham had, 9% in Manchester, 8 % in Bristol and 5% in Glasgow.
London homes the most diverse set of cultures so it is bound to have "stranger" names.

62% of the reserved UK workforce say they wont be sending a co-worker a Valentines Day card on Friday.
Over the last 2 weeks, we surveyed around 500 people to ask them if they were going to send a Valentines Day card or present to a co-worker or boss. There always seems to be some “fancying” going on in the office so we wanted to know if people take it to the next step and show their love openly or secretly to that special person. This survey suggests most people don't!
38% however say that they would send a card or present which is still quite a healthy proportion of people. Watch out on Friday as you could be that special person!!!!!
In our most recent survey, we asked our users if they were hoping for a kiss at their Christmas party this year and if a kiss could lead to a promotion in the New Year.
We found 43% of respondents are hoping to kiss a work colleague at the office Christmas party and that 1 in 3 people felt that if they managed to kiss their boss at their Christmas party it could lead to a promotion in the New Year. Are people really that desperate to exploit this kind of behaviour in an effort to build their career?
Our survey asked over 1,000 users in the lead up to Christmas.
It is a funny way of thinking because really only the outcome of having too many drinks and kissing work colleagues is embarrassment and awkwardness when it is time to go back into the office.

A recent poll that we carried out of over 1,000 jobseekers asked where would they rather sit in an office. We wondered if there would be some sucking up to the boss un-covered here.....and.....
we were right! 28% would actually prefer to sit next to their manager in the office. Although this was not the top answer, it was the second most popular response.
35% would however prefer to sit in the middle of their co-workers, which is of course the most obvious answer.
Other responses include:
- Near the big bosses office - 14%
- Near the entrance - 12%
- At the back - 8%
- By the exit - 3%
